What happened to me today was too much of an accomplishment not to seize it.
For the first time ever today, I felt like hard work payed off for me and I actually felt accomplished.
As everyone knows, I’ve been pining over Purchase College since my junior year.
Before applying, I had to decide to go into the conservatory and get a BFA degree, or not and get a BA degree. I chose the BFA.
BFA rejected me.
After waiting four months to find out my fate, I found out that I was rejected.
So…naturally what did I do?
I cried, got day-drunk and had a great time with my friends to remember there are still so many extraordinary things in the world. Like the film screening at the Hirshorn Museum. It was lovely, and I realized it wasn’t over. Life wasn’t over.
My parents always taught me that if you want something bad enough, you can have it and boy, oh boy, did I want Purchase.
I figured, there had to be some loophole. I reread the letter and it said I was denied to thefilm conservatory.
Does that mean you get into the school?
Sadly no. But did that stop me? Absolutely not.
I called Purchase first thing in the morning to verify the information, which was true and to top it all off, the freshman class was full! Like seriously, this would only happen to me.
So, the admissions guy told me there was virtually nothing I could do and that people were being wait-listed, but he transferred me to the counselors anyway who said pretty much the same thing as the admissions guy, but gave me a sliver a hope, the director of admissions email. That was all I needed.
I emailed the DOA almost as quickly as I got her email and tried to articulate as much as possible the pain in my chest, the yearning to be at Purchase, and the dedication that I’m willing to put into this school I love.
She emails me back about 10 minutes later to tell me she loves my enthusiasm and will try to get back to me with a decision in the incoming days.
A few hours later, I get that lovely message that I’ve actually been waiting for my entire life.
“Congratulations! You have been accepted to Purchase College.”
I was accepted.
And this was more than just a college acceptance.
It was an acceptance to my people, the weirdos, the creative thinkers, the artists.
I’ve never felt like I belonged here, and never completely fit in. But at Purchase, I feel at home already. I love everyone who’s going there next year already!
So this is my story of pure an absolute determination and how never giving up on the thing you love will lead you to where you’re meant to be every. single. time.
Never give up on something you can’t o a day without thinking about.
Unless you’re stalking someone…then you should give up.
And now I’m more excited than ever to spent the next four years of my life with some on the most amazing people I will ever have the pleasure of meeting.
September 2nd can’t come soon enough!
I AM A PURCHASE COLLEGE STUDENT!!!! And totally right where I was meant to be.
Apparently in the 1950s, a popular nightclub, Mocambo would not book Ella Fitzgerald because she was black. Fortunately for Ella, she had a powerful and unlikely benefactor Marilyn Monroe.
“I owe Marilyn Monroe a real debt…it was because of her that I played the Mocambo, a very popular nightclub in the ’50s. She personally called the owner of the Mocambo, and told him she wanted me booked immediately, and if he would do it, she promised she would take a front table every night. She told him - and it was true, due to Marilyn’s superstar status - that the press would go wild. The owner said yes, and Marilyn was there, front table, every night. The press went overboard. After that, I never had to play a small jazz club again. She was an unusual woman - and ahead of her time and she didn’t know it.” - Ella Fitzgerald
I need this on my blog because of reasons!!!
Omg. Again
So there’s this strange thing I do where I think guys who will have a good time acting like a girl is super hot..

The moment you’ve all been waiting for. The moment I’ve been procrastinating forever. Here you go. The list of what to bring to college. Just a little something before I begin:
One of the most important things to remember is that you don’t need to bring your life to college. You have a limited amount of space that you’re probably sharing with another person. Keep it light, keep it neat. Your life now consists of dorms, classes, dining hall, and parties. You’re going to be seeing the same people every day and doing the same thing every day. Don’t let this list influence you to buy stuff that you’re not going to use, because the main thing here is saving money and downsizing. On the other hand, you’re going to be on your own for the first time and there are probably a lot of things you usually don’t have to think about (laundry supplies, dishes, extension cords, etc).
Anyways, enjoy the list, reblog the shit out of it, and HAVE AN AWESOME TIME SHOPPING.
